Bringing Tintin to life has been a tricky task with many of the previous attempts failing to impress Hergé himself. Spielberg initially gained rights to Tintin in 1983 but failed to make anything of it. After gaining rights again he has finally made the film.
The biggest part of this film is the use of motion capture. Along with the very life-like faces, the animated characters appear very realistic. This is possibly slightly freaky but certainly allows the comic book characters to be brought as close to real life as possible as opposed to getting actors who look vaguely similar.
The film is packed to the brim with action and adventure. By combining 3 books in one film there were many action sequences to choose from to fill the 1 hour 47 minutes. I believe this was the film's downfall. While Spielberg was evidently eager to show Tintin's thirst for adventure he may have gone a fair way beyond Herge's Tintin. Spielberg does not leave a single moment to relax, just as things seem to slow down we are hit with another fight or boat chase.
Overall the film does a good job with recreating the characters and their personalities although they could have been further developed had there been some more extended dialogue. The motion capture is used very well and appropriately (earning itself a Golden Globe). The 3 books were wound together into a single plot very smoothly which showed off Tintin's tenacity. Perhaps Spielberg felt the adaptation required some spicing up to meet modern standards.
Hergé believed if anyone could do his comic justice, it was Spielberg. Did he do just that? Who knows...

Practice Makes Perfect
I have always struggled to write clearly and concisely and so the purpose of this blog is to give me some way of practicing just that. I decided to link a passion for film with a need to practice writing and so ended up with this.
So you may have guessed this is not a blog about how to write film reviews nor will feature any beautifully crafted reviews (hopefully ,with time, they will get better). I would still like to make some meaning full analyses of films but initially I may not convey them very clearly. If you have come here looking for film reviews and want to challenge my views, please do. Everything I write I believe in (I am not just writing rubbish for the sake of writing).
Feel free to comment, leave advice or share.
